Music by The Piano Brothers

Louis Leroy Masteller, 87, of Dublin, Ohio, recently of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

Louis (Louie) was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on April 21, 1930, to Francis Hertel and John Masteller and grew up in Clintonville, near Columbus, Ohio.

Louis was retired from Masons Sand and Gravel in Obetz, Ohio, a family business that he co-owned with his older brothers, Gordon and Roger Masteller. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Navy upon the Bon Homme Richard aircraft carrier. After the war, Louis attended the Ohio State University before joining the family business. His deep connection with southeast Ohio came soon after, through his beloved wife, Rosemary Darlene Day Masteller. Louis and Rosemary married on February 7, 1964 and had 47 wonderful years together. They lived first in Upper Arlington, Ohio and then moved to Dublin, Ohio in 1968, where they bought a house on the Scioto River that became a festive place for entertaining family and friends for decades. Together, Louis and Rosemary raised their daughter, Kimberly, and generations of Irish Setters. They enjoyed spending summers on their boat at Lake Erie and the fall and winter seasons visiting family in Stafford, Ohio.  In his free time, Louis was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. Louis was a kind and gentle soul.  He was diplomatic, level-headed, and had a wonderful sense of humor. He has many friends and family members and his warm and positive presence will not be forgotten.

Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Day Masteller, his brother, Gordon Masteller, and his parents.  He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Adora Masteller (son-in-law Donovan Dodrill), his granddaughter Lois Olivia Masteller Dodrill, his brother Roger Masteller, and several nieces and nephews, as well as brother and sister-in-laws.

Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2017 where funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 14, 2017.  Burial will follow in the Stafford Cemetery in Stafford, Ohio.
