          Richard A. Carpenter, 61, of Summerfield, Ohio (Calais Community) passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at his home.

          He was born in Barnesville, Ohio on September 29, 1956 a son of the late Irvin and Cledith Leach Carpenter.

          He was a retired paving operator for Shelly & Sands, Inc. and was a member of the Ohio Operating Engineers, Local 18, Akron, Ohio and also the Laborers Local 530, Zanesville, Ohio. He was a social member of the American Legion Post 578, Batesville, Ohio.

          He enjoyed deer hunting, farming, watching the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Bengals and Reds, and most especially spending time with his family.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Leanna Dimmerling, and a brother-in-law, Gervis Hayes.

          Surviving are his wife, Brenda Miller Carpenter, whom he married on April 5, 1975; two daughters, Heather (Guy) Carpenter of Summerfield, Ohio, Amanda (Brad) Ramsey of Calais, Ohio; two sons, Dennis (Amy) Carpenter of Malaga, Ohio, Mike (Anne) Carpenter of Somerton, Ohio; one sister, Generva Hayes of Calais, Ohio; one brother, Dale (Debbie) Carpenter of Calais, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Richard Dimmerling of Sarahsville, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Maria and Miley Ramsey, Paige, Lexi, Kenzie, A.J., Bode, Baylee, Camden, and Evan Carpenter; several nieces and nephews.

          Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2018 where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 3, 2018. Burial will follow in the Calais Cemetery, Calais, Ohio.
