Richard Shreves Obituary

Richard Shannon Shreves of Cameron, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on February 8, 2024 at his home. He was born on July 19, 1965, a son of the late Richard and Rita Schultz Shreves.

A man born an old soul. A gifted performer who could play any role, accent and all, performing onstage with the Capital Music Hall and Towngate Theater in Wheeling, West Virginia. Playing in the roles of King in Cinderella, in Hello Dolly and My Fair Lady to name a few.  He did masterful impressions and did many to the thrills of his audience – we laughed until we cried.   His gift for acting and singing earned him standing ovations. He was a multitalented man in that he was a self-taught ragtime piano player, he was spot on imitating people we knew. His years of film and theater showed in the polish of all his performances. He was passionate about the arts, music, general antiquity and dearly loved his old radio and radio shows and his Victrola which is the only instrument he used to play all his 1920’s collection of 78’s. He especially loved his dear precious dog Roosevelt.

Shannon was a loving and doting son and caregiver to both of his parents. He was a kind and devoted friend, brother, son, and uncle who helped others in need whenever possible. Always helping with groceries, cooking meals, picking up medicine or even going so far as to offer some protection and sanctuary on the family land.   He made the land and his home inviting to everyone.  A host and entertainer in all settings and at all times.

He was well acquainted with the Bible and knew to whom all credit for creation belonged and is with Him now, sinless and free of shame, cleansed with the forgiving blood of our Savior.  He was well read and well written. His flowing rhetoric will be missed on Facebook.

Shannon never met a stranger.  It never mattered where we went, Wheeling, WV, Caldwell, Ohio, he knew so many people and their history.  He made so many friends at Walmart and Tractor Supply, every job he ever had.  Loved by so many people, he leaves a huge void in the lives of all who knew and loved him. He was one of a kind, a true renaissance man.  Now free and happy….at last.

In addition to his parents, Shannon was preceded in death by his brother Francis Aubry. He is survived by his two sisters, Melanie Masi of Winston-Salem, NC and Cheryl Crooks of Woodsfield, OH in addition to his nieces and nephews.

Per Shannon’s wishes, he was cremated with a memorial to follow at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Watters Funeral Home c/o of Shannon Shreves, 37570 State Route 78, Woodsfield, Ohio to help the family with funeral expenses.
