Martha C. Kress

          Martha C. Kress, 98, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at the Monroe County Care Center, Woodsfield, Ohio surrounded by her loving family.

          She was born near Miltonsburg, Ohio on December 21, 1920 a daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Schafer Burkhart.

          Martha was a homemaker and a member of the St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, Ohio where she was a member of the Catholic Womens Club. She enjoyed playing bingo and going to church.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Kress Sr.; two sons, Fred and Clem Kress; two brothers, John and Charles Burkhart; five sisters, Gertrude Harding, Florence Hayes, Alice Yarus, Marie Burkhart and Helen Burkhart; a son-in-law, Floyd Griffin.

          Surviving are three daughters, Evelyn Griffin of Canton, Ohio, Helen (Jerry) Dillon of Canton, Ohio, Chris (Joe) Hoff of Woodsfield, Ohio; four sons, Robert (Darlene) Kress of Burns Harbor, Indiana, William (Lori) Kress of Canton, Ohio, Ralph (Lucia) Kress of Bakersfield, California, George Kress Jr. of Bakersfield, California; two daughters-in-law, Sharon Kress of Woodsfield, Ohio, Genni Kress of Caldwell, Ohio; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

          Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 23, 2019 where vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m.

          Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at the St. Sylvester Catholic Church, 330 Main Street, Woodsfield, Ohio with Rev. David Gaydosik as the celebrant.

          Burial will follow in the St. Sylvester Cemetery, Woodsfield, Ohio.
