Bernard C. Hill Sr.

          Bernard C. Hill Sr., 88, of Summerfield, Ohio passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at his home.

          He was born near Carlisle, Ohio on July 14, 1931 a son of the late Louis and Dena Coleman Hill.

          Bernard was a retired employee of the Ohio Department of Transportation in Noble County, Ohio and was a former mechanic at the former Ziler’s Garage in Caldwell, Ohio.

He was a Catholic by faith; an honorary member of the Summerfield Fire Department, Summerfield, Ohio and a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Caldwell, Ohio.

          He enjoyed hunting, trapping, sporting events and spending time with family.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes Burkhart and Freda Ritterbeck; a brother, Raphael Hill; a sister-in-law, Ethel Weisend and a step-granddaughter, Deanna Smithberger.

          Surviving are his wife, Lela Kirkbride Hill whom he married on December 12, 1953; four daughters, Diane (Dan) Gray of Senecaville, Ohio, Debbie (Robert) Forshey of Caldwell, Ohio, Lynne (Jim) Smithberger of Lower Salem, Ohio, Jodi (Dave) Schott of Caldwell, Ohio; three sons, Bernard (Kerry) Hill Jr. of Summerfield, Ohio, David (Katrina) Hill of Mt. Blanchard, Ohio, Jamie (Tess) Hill of Woodsfield, Ohio; sister-in-law, Donna (Larry) Mallett of Summerfield, Ohio; brother-in-law, Donald (Linda) Kirkbride of Summerfield, Ohio; seventeen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and ten step-great-grandchildren.

          Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2019 where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2019 with Jimmie Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Eastern Cemetery, Summerfield, Ohio.
