Charles K. Habig, 92, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Friday, June 3, 2022 at Embassy of Cambridge, Cambridge, Ohio.
He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on May 8, 1930, a son of the late Lawrence and Syvilla (Rose) Habig.
Charles graduated from Martins Ferry High School and then enlisted into the U.S. Navy and was a “Frogman” during the Korean War. He was known to many as, “Chuck” or “Chief”. He enjoyed watching and walking the sidelines as his six sons played football for the Woodsfield Redskins. Charles retired from the Ormet Aluminum plant in Hannibal, Ohio. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and spending time with his family. Charles was also a member of the St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, Ohio and a member of the Switzerland of Ohio Country Club, Beallsville, Ohio.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Callista (Herrick) Habig, whom he married on July 4, 1953; three brothers, James, Roland and Richard Habig; four sisters, Syvilla Habig, Gertrude O-Conner, Anna Billingsley, Elma Habig; son-in-law, Michael Schumacher and great grandson, Gibson Habig.
Charles is survived by three daughters, Delores Habig of Canton, Ohio, Barbara (Mark) Williams of Woodsfield, Ohio, and Mary (Robert Fowler) Habig of Tiffin, Ohio; six sons, Charles (Shirley) Habig of Malaga, Ohio, Daniel (Lisa) Habig of Beallsville, Ohio, Bradley Habig of Miltonsburg, Ohio, Wendell (Missy) Habig of Gaffney, South Carolina; Bruce (Danyel) Habig of Woodsfield, Ohio, and Karl Brent (Kay) Habig of Delmar, Delaware; four brothers, Lawrence Habig of Shadyside, Ohio, Robert Habig of Piedmont, Ohio, William (Jackie) Habig of Clarington, Ohio, Thomas (Pam) Habig of St. Clairsville, Ohio; three sisters, Emma Billingsley of Rayland, Ohio, Nancy Yoder of Martins Ferry, Ohio and Mary (Bill) Henry of New Philadelphia, Ohio; three sisters-in-law, Rita Habig of Piedmont, Ohio Helena Baxter of Proctor, West Virginia, Rita Dalrymple of New Martinsville, West Virginia; twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2022 with vigil services at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, Ohio will Rev. Fr. Timothy Davison as the celebrant.
Burial will follow in the St. Sylvester Catholic Cemetery, Woodsfield, Ohio with full military graveside services.
