Darlene J. Winland

Darlene J. Winland, 84, of Byesville, Ohio (formerly of Lower Salem, Ohio) passed away Monday, August 22, 2022 at the Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, Ohio.

She was born at Harriettsville, Ohio on May 15, 1938 a daughter of the late Darwin and Beulah Day Kehl.

She was a 1955 graduate of the former Bethel High School, Marr, Ohio and attended night classes at Marietta College after High School graduation.

Darlene was an educational aid and Main Office secretary at Skyvue High School and Monroe Central High School for 35 years.  She was the “right hand woman” of more than 10 principals, the “go to lady” for hundreds of teachers, and the “she’ll know the answer” for thousands of students and parents throughout her career at the schools.  After retiring she and LaVerne continued to support the athletic teams traveling to football, basketball and volleyball games throughout the area.

Darlene was a woman of Faith and attended the Lebanon Methodist Church as a child and was a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ, Woodsfield, Ohio.  She was a member of the Bethel Community Center, the Lebanon Ladies Aid and the Switzerland of Ohio Retired School Employees.

She loved watching her grandchildren participate in school activities and sports. She was famous for making homemade noodles and apple pie.

Surviving are her loving husband, LaVerne Winland whom she married on June 30, 1954; one son Randy (Sandra) Winland of Marion, Ohio; two granddaughters, Elizabeth (Justin) Gottshall of Grove City, Ohio; Rebecca Winland and special friend Russell Amir of Grove City, Ohio; and two great grandchildren Brayden and Adelyn Gottshall.  Godmother to her niece, Joyce Kehl and many loving nieces and nephews; her favorite dog, Rosie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Garnet (Lloyd) Bach; Earl (Martyne) Kehl; Edsel (Kathryn) Kehl; Geneva (Paul) Landefeld; Norma Kehl and Delores Kehl.

Friends will be received at the Woodsfield Church of Christ, 860 Lewisville Road, Woodsfield, Ohio from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 26, 2022 where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2022 with Sam Bartrug and Scott McFarland officiating.  Burial will follow in the Creighton Ridge Cemetery near Sycamore Valley, Ohio.
