George L. Stanley Jr.

      George L. Stanley Jr., 92, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Thursday, July 31, 2025 at the Trustwell Living Westwood Place, Woodsfield, Ohio.

      He was born at Chesapeake, West Virginia on October 1, 1932 a son of the late George L. Stanley Sr. and Bertha Glancey Stanley.

     George was a retired employee of the Ormet Corporation, Hannibal, Ohio and a former employee of the Army Corp. of Engineers, Marietta, Ohio. He was also a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Woodsfield, Ohio.

     George enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time.

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Jean Pegram.

     Surviving are his wife, Mary Carolyn Stanley, whom he married on April 5, 1957; three brothers, Wayne (Kay) Stanley of Jonesboro, Tennessee, David (Sue) Stanley of Beckley, West Virginia, Allen (Jo) Stanley of Live Oak, Florida; one sister, Betty (John) Flowers of Shady Spring, West Virginia; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

     Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home 37501 State Route 78, Woodsfield, Ohio from 11:00 a.m. until noon on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

     Private graveside services will follow for the family only at Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield, Ohio with Rev. David Cottrell officiating.
