Janet Lea Reed

                Janet Lea Reed, 57, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Sunday, February 2, 2020 at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio.

                She was born in Barnesville, Ohio on August 19, 1962 a daughter of the late George and Wanda Bertschy Zonker.

                Janet was a former teacher at the Woodsfield Elementary School, Woodsfield, Ohio and was a former owner of Curves in Cambridge, Ohio. She was also a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ, Woodsfield, Ohio.

                One of Janet’s passions was speaking to various school groups and organizations about organ donation and how it impacted her life having received a double lung transplant in 2002. Another passion in Janet’s life was not only being a school room teacher but also being a teacher of life skills and wise decisions to her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Besides being very dedicated to God, Janet dedicated herself to daily exercise and long walks on Paulus Ridge.

                She also had a lot of gratitude for the Gift of Life and her relationship with her donor family. Jeff and Jill Otero who made the decision to allow their daughter, Katie’s organs and tissues to be donated after her unexpected death in August, 2002.

                Surviving are her husband, Joe Reed whom she married on July 4, 1987; three sisters, Karen Robbins (Steve Ogle) of Woodsfield, Ohio, Annette (Pat) McMillen of Columbus, Ohio, Connie (Shane) Bracey of Florence, Alabama; one brother, Harry Zonker of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews, Heather Robbins (Scott Jorris), Jessica (Ken) Hsiao, Dana Isaly, Ryan McMillen, Hannah and Megan Zonker, Alexis and Brandon Dick, Nicholas and Madeleine Hsiao.

                Friends will be received at the Woodsfield Church of Christ, 860 Lewisville Road, Woodsfield, Ohio from 11:00 a.m. until time of a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with Sam Bartrug officiating. Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield, Ohio.

                In lieu of flowers and remembrances memorial contributions may be made to the Covenant Christian Academy, 185 Shady Avenue, Woodsfield, Ohio 43793.
