Joseph E. Block

Joseph E. Block, 72, loving husband of the late Deborah Block, of Miltonsburg, Ohio passed away Friday, September 10, 2021 at the Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville, West Virginia.

He was born at Zanesville, Ohio on March 26, 1949 a son of the late Francis and Edith Yeagle Block.

He was a retired furnace operator for the former Ormet Corporation, Hannibal, Ohio; a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Miltonsburg, Ohio; a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War; member of the American Legion Post 87, Woodsfield, Ohio; Knights of Columbus Council 5009; Monroe County Health Planning Council; Monroe County Veterans Board; Noble County Cruisers and the GTO Association of Central Ohio.

He also enjoyed spending time with family and had a passion for classic cars.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Deborah VanSkiver Block on November 3, 2020; an infant sister, Darleen, a brother, Virgil Block and a grandson, Thomas Block.

Surviving are two daughters, Maria (Shane) Mauger of Westerville, Ohio, Teresa (David) McMillan of Miltonsburg, Ohio; one son, Joe (Christi) Block of Pickerington, Ohio; one sister, Eileen (Clarence) Ackerman of Somerton, Ohio; two brothers, Francis “Sonny” Block of Miltonsburg, Ohio, Andrew Block of Miltonsburg, Ohio; twelve grandchildren, Erica Sims, Lyndsie Fortin, Tyler Sims, Zachary Sims, Olivia Merew, Jessie Block, Cullin Smith, Samantha Merew, Wyatt Mauger, Avery Fortin, Wesly Mauger, Kayla Block; two great-grandchildren, Jadeyn Jackson, Paisley McGregor; several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2021 where social distancing and face masks are encouraged.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Miltonsburg, Ohio with Rev. Fr. Timothy Davison as the celebrant. People with classic cars are encouraged to drive them in the procession to the church. Those wishing to participate in the procession are asked to arrive at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m.

Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery, Miltonsburg, Ohio with full military graveside services.

Knights of Columbus, Council 5009 will conduct services at 6:45 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2021 followed by the Vigil Service at the funeral home.
