Lewis W. Kahrig, “Uncle Louie”, 86, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024 at his home.
He was born near Woodsfield, Ohio on March 22, 1938 a son of the late Alfred and Gertrude Elizabeth Christman Kahrig.
Lewis was a retired processer/furnace operator at the former Ormet Corporation, Hannibal, Ohio. He was a U. S. Army veteran serving his country during the Vietnam Era and was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ near Lewisville, Ohio.
Lewis was dedicated to the Monroe County Fairground and especially enjoyed attending the tractor pulling events.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa Smithberger Kahrig on March 9, 1996: a daughter, Angella Kahrig; an infant sister and a sister, Lena Pettit; three brothers, Melvin, Raymond and Marion Kahrig.
Surviving are a daughter who he raised, Rosa Kahrig Johnson of Jerusalem, Ohio; two sisters, Marlene (Charles) Caldwell of Pataskala, Ohio, Myrna (Roger) Morrison of Lower Salem, Ohio; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including his nephew “His Boy” Brad Gardner.
Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 10:00 a.m. until time of military and funeral services at noon, Friday, August 23, 2024 with Keith Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Middle Church Cemetery near Lewisville, Ohio.
