Mabel Potts

Mabel Potts, age 97 of Hebron, Ohio passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at the Selma Markowitz Center at Licking Memorial Hospital, Newark, Ohio. Mabel was born in Monroe County on March 17, 1923 to the late Harvey and Eda (Turner) Potts.

Mabel graduated from Stafford Local High School, Stafford, Ohio.   A few years after graduation, Mabel moved and worked in Canton, Ohio.  She worked at Thoma Catering Services until the company was destroyed by a fire.  She then worked at Flemings Food Distribution Center and retired from there.  After retiring, she moved to Hebron, Ohio to be closer to her family.  She realized that retirement wasn’t for her and started working at her great nephew’s restaurant.  Mabel enjoyed working in the kitchen at the Sunset Inn.  She worked there many years and her specialty was making crab cakes among other things.

Mabel loved flowers and enjoyed working in her flower beds.  She enjoyed shopping and had a pair of shoes for every outfit.  Mabel loved dishes and she most definitely had the prettiest dish at our family gatherings.  Mabel loved being with family and seeing all her great-great-great nieces and nephews.

Mabel lived the last two and a half years at The Inn at Chapel Grove.  She enjoyed playing Bingo with her special friend Katie that would visit her every week. 

Mabel is survived by her niece and caregiver Donna (Potts) Sorg, nephew Sonny Hines, niece Hattie (Hines) Byers, niece Kay (Ross) Heitt.  Mabel was loved by many great nieces and nephews, spanning five generations.

In addition to her parents, Mabel was preceded in death by her sisters; Florence Potts, Vivian (Potts) Hines, Ruth (Potts) Youtsey; brothers, Norman (Pete) Potts and Clayton Potts.

Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11:30 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2021 with Rev. David Cottrill officiating. In keeping with COVID-19 mandates, face masks and social distancing will be required for the visitation and funeral services.

Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield, Ohio.
