Ralph Gene Smith, 89, of Newark, Ohio (formerly of Woodsfield, OH) passed away Friday, July 3, 2020 at the home of his daughter in Newark, Ohio.
He was born in Low Gap, Ohio on December 30, 1930 a son of the late Everett and Waife Cline Smith.
He was a 1948 graduate of Graysville High School, Graysville, Ohio; a retired employee of the former Ormet Corporation, Hannibal, Ohio with 29 years of service and was a former owner of Smith’s T.V. & Repair, Woodsfield, Ohio. He was a member of the Woodsfield Christian Church, Woodsfield, Ohio where he formerly served as a deacon. Gene was also a U.S. Army veteran serving his country during the Korean Conflict.
Gene enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and camping. He also enjoyed playing music with the former Passin Thru Gospel Group.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Young Smith on December 23, 2013; two brothers, Howard Smith and Kenneth Smith; a sister, Ethel Smith.
Surviving are one daughter, Patricia “Trish” (Brian) Snodgrass of Newark, Ohio; one sister, Emily (Don) Hartshorn of Woodsfield, Ohio; two grandchildren, Megan Snodgrass and Justin Snodgrass both of Newark, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
A private visitation for family only will be held at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, Ohio on Tuesday July 7, 2020. A public graveside and military service held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at the Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield, Ohio with Herb Alexander of Grace Christian Church, Woodsfield, Ohio officiating.
