Ralph M. Young

Ralph M. Young, 80, of Lewisville passed away May 30, 2023 peacefully with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born on March 24, 1943, to Irvin “Bud” Young and Eva Jean (Norris Young) Brown. He was raised on the family farm by his grandparents William and Julia Young.

Ralph was a 1961 graduate of Skyvue High School and served in the U.S. Navy.  On June 25, 1967, Ralph married the love of his life Connie Bach. Together they built their home on the family farm and were blessed with three children. He proudly served the Lord as a member of the Church of Christ of Lewisville.

Ralph was a hardworking man who loved his family deeply. He was a firefighter with the Lewisville Volunteer Fire Department, worked in the steel mill and coal mine where he was affectionately known by his coworkers as “Catfish.” He then retired from the Switzerland of Ohio Local School District where he was a bus driver.

As an avid sports fan he enjoyed coaching little league baseball, refereeing high school and college basketball games and golfing with friends. However, his real passion was fishing. Ralph could often be found casting off at his own pond, at Brule Lake in Canada or one of his many secret fishing spots. He shared his love of the outdoors as he taught his children and grandchildren how to bait their own hook. Throughout his lifetime Ralph owned over 40 bass fishing boats. He always had a project boat to work on with a never-ending stream of packages being delivered from Bass Pro and Cabela’s.

Ralph is survived by wife Connie, son Christopher Young, daughter Amanda (Heath) Stuart, son-in-law Arthur Poorman, grandchildren Emma, Griffin, Megan, Gavin and Blake and siblings Rodney Young, Larry Brown, Rhonda Jackson, Donna Mead and Delilah Noll.

In addition to his parents and grandparents Ralph was preceded in death by his daughter Kimberly Poorman, a sister Phyllis Yoho and a brother Gary Brown.

Family and friends will be received at Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2023, where funeral and military services will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with Evangelist Mike Davis officiating.

Burial will follow in the Friendship Cemetery, Lewisville, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Lewisville Church of Christ, Lewisville Volunteer Fire Department or the Monroe County Veterans.
