It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Richard Allen “Dick” Edgington Sr., 75, of Woodsfield, Ohio July 9, 2026 at the comfort of the home of his daughter and son in law, Misty and Jason Blackstone and surrounded by loving family.
He was born at Wingett run, Marietta Ohio on August 14, 1950, a son of the late Lee and Bertha (Hackathorn) Edgington.
After 40 years of hard work and dedication, he retired from working as a coal miner. He was also a member of the Monroe F & A.M. Lodge 189 and Order of Eastern Star 268 of Woodsfield, Ohio.
He enjoyed woodworking occasionally, collecting coal mining memorabilia, was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan and also loved relaxing in his recliner with their three dogs Double T, Jasper and Bear, who already miss him.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Edgington and four sisters, Julia Walters, Genevia Ham, Katherine Bob and Darlene Groves.
Surviving in addition to his devoted and dedicated wife, Janice (Davis) Edgington, whom he married on November 30, 1969 are two daughters, Sandra (Eric) Edgington-Jones and Misty (Jason) Blackstone; one son, Richard (Wanita) Edgington; four grandchildren, Paul Edgington, Kelsey Wiley, Jason (JC) Blackstone and Cheyenne Dujardin; six great-grandchildren, Mason Wihl, Graydon and Kade Edgington, Clint and Azula Wiley and Lilith Driver; two brothers, Jim (Betty) Edgington and Lee (Butch) (Rhonda) Edgington and one sister, Vickie (Chuck) Sparks; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78, Woodsfield, Ohio on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. where a funeral service will be held Thursday, July 16, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Graysville, Ohio.
