Stella T. Crum, 97, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the Valley Hospice Liza’s Place, Wheeling, West Virginia.
She was born near Lewisville, Ohio (Burkhart) on November 10, 1926, a daughter of the late Aloysius and Cecilia Schwallie Burkhart.
Stella was a loving wife to her husband Paul for 64 years. Her purpose in life was to serve God and her family. She worked on the family farm and was a homemaker raising her nine children. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Miltonsburg, Ohio where she previously was a member of the CWC and the St. Francis Society. In the past she acted as a Eucharistic minister for St. John’s, serving the nursing homes. She was also a member of the Catholic Cursillo Group. She was an advocate for the Pro-Life movement.
She enjoyed gardening, working alongside of her husband on the farm, sewing and making quilts for her family, going on trips and especially spending time with her family including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Crum on July 18, 2014; one son, James Crum; three daughters-in-law, Jennylinde Crum, Robin Crum and Mary Crum; a son-in-law, Andrew Bare; a grand daughter-in-law, Crystal Crum; four brothers, Lucian, Herman, Leander and Cyril Burkhart; two sisters, Constantine Burkhart and Sister Joanna “Genevieve” Burkhart.
Surviving are four daughters, Joann (Clifford) Swearman of Markleton, PA, Mary Crum of Gahanna, OH, Elizabeth (Tim) Betts of Hebron, OH, Jane Bare of Liberty Township, OH; four sons, Robert Crum of Woodsfield, OH, Edward Crum of Wheeling, W.VA., Joseph (Susan) Crum of New Albany, OH, John (Patricia) Crum of Wooster, OH; a daughter–in-law, Lynn Crum (James); twenty-four grandchildren, Delaine, Michael, Joseph, Paul, Jessicalind, Chelsea, Alex, Benjamin, Christopher, Monica, Annie, Kristen, Stephen, Brian, Lauren, Danielle, Steven, Catherine, Jonathan, Jacob, Matthew, Christina, Rachel and Teresa; eighteen great-grandchildren; Zachary, Abigail, Luke, Nora, Mark, Landen, Brooke, Kaitlyn, Gracelyn, Maya, Grace, Sophie, Adalyn, Blaise, Elijah, Augustine, Alexandria, Madison and Andrew.
Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78, Woodsfield, Ohio from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2024 where rosary and vigil services will be held at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2024, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Miltonsburg, Ohio with Father Nicholas Ward as the celebrant.
Burial will follow in the St. Sylvester Cemetery, Woodsfield, Ohio.
